Denny's DJ Goes Wild: Plays “All Star” by Smash Mouth on a Loop for a Full Day

There’s nothing quite like the early morning walk to class. Whether or not the day will be enjoyable is all shaped by the walk; the weather, the amount of uphill walking and most importantly, what song will be blasting outside of the on-campus Denny’s. There isn’t anyone who knows this more than Denny’s resident DJ, Jace Kason.

“Not many people know I’m out here,” explained Kason holding his mixer board on his lap while wedged between a grill and a freezer. “But I am. I am out here and I don’t stop coming. All day, every day. Today, they’re finally going to learn because I’m going to play the 'should’ve won all the Grammys' track, the unofficial national anthem of these United States and my band’s most-covered song, 'All Star' by Smash Mouth, on a mother hecking loop.”

Kason is confident that his music choice not only brings unending joy to those walking by Denny’s, but is also certain that it serves to create the perfect date night ambiance, exam pump-up atmosphere and even a gentle breakup setting.

“The breakup setting definitely threw me the first time I realized it,” said Kason, pushing aside a dirty pot to reveal a framed picture of his high school girlfriend. “She sat me down one day and said she’d been sleeping with my best friend and that she was leaving me for him. Then she looked me dead in the eyes and said, ‘Hey now. You’re an all star. Get your game on. Go play,’ and I knew everything would be alright.”

From that moment on, Jace Kason dedicated his entire collegiate career to providing the perfect soundscape to anyone and everyone’s special moment. Especially if there’s a chance that the soundscape can be “All Star” by Smash Mouth.

“I didn’t even know there was a DJ,” confessed super senior Marty Makentire while not looking up from his phone. “But I’ll definitely fight him if he ever plays Smash Mouth on a loop again.”
