Student Spit on While Ordering Hot Chocolate at Paper Fox Cafe
Given the recent cold weather in Tallahassee, Florida, many students have been flocking to whatever smoky little cafe they can find. A few end up frequenting Paper Fox Cafe, which is known to have aesthetically named cold brews and cashiers with mullets. When Makayla Paulson stumbled into the establishment a few days ago, she was ultimately spat on after a misstep in the drink ordering process.
“I don’t know what I was thinking. I wasn’t prepared with my order, and when I looked at the menu, every drink was named after a sub-family of foxes or a Robert Frost poem,” began Paulson, the student in question. “I could have asked what the drinks meant, but the cashier had already complimented my Doc Martens and I didn’t want to look like a stupid idiot! So, I said I wanted hot chocolate.” At this moment, Paulson knew it had all gone wrong. Bystanders shook their heads while crossing their ill-manicured hands over their denim jackets. “I just can’t believe the cashiers would spit on me! It’s bad enough for all the workers to count down and synchronize spit, but to move the COVID glass barrier between us to do so?”
“I think the customer was totally in the wrong,” stated Star, who refused to provide their last name. After checking that their septum ring was placed correctly, they continued to enlighten. “How are you going to enter an established coffee shop, which hosts monthly sacrifices to provide the best cold brew in Tallahassee, and ask for chocolate milk? She didn’t even specify that she wanted oat milk,” they exclaimed. While this is true, many feel Star went too far in calling Paulson a “little baby who wants milky” when they saw each other after the incident.
Similarly to the white and gold versus blue and black dress discussion, the audience is split. While some feel spitting was too strong a measure to deter this behavior, others wish they could have removed their masks and spit on Paulson as well. In addition to this, petitions are in the works to fully remove hot chocolate as a menu option. In recovery, Paulson promises to do better next time, looking forward to ordering the “Woods on a Snowy Evening” latte for $8.99. However, locals recall seeing her at the establishment a few weeks ago, citing her asking if she could have her cold brew warmed up.
